I will start by saying in general I do not like business books. I find that for every two hundred pages I read in the average business book about four are worth reading. Business books are typically written by academic oriented people with lots of research behind their writing. I respect that. But I find 98% of the material hard to put into real practice.
What’s Working Nowis not a business book, it is a hand book for marketing in 2019.
I found the book very refreshing. It is written by a real person with real marketing experience for other business people to put the material to immediate use. In contrast to other business books, 98% of this book contains tangible information you can use. It’s not a thesis or the result of a decade long study it is a simple, easy to read handbook about how to market your product to today’s consumer using today’s marketing tools. Simple as that.
I will warn you that this book is only applicable to authentic marketers who are marketing authentic products to consumer who care not just about what they are buying but why your company makes your product (your company’s purpose) and how you go about making your product (your company’s culture). If you or your company or its products are not authentic not much of this book will be of use to you.
This book’s intelligence is in its simplicity and usefulness. The book is strategic and is coupled with hands on ways to apply the strategies discussed.
This book is the future of marketing. I have an MBA in marketing from Booth in Chicago and this book makes me realize now much of those studies are now irrelevant.
The context of how the material is this book is presented is in itself a reflection of the author’s marketing expertise in marketing to today’s consumer.
As we all know marketing efforts that are misguided cost the same as those that are spot on. This book has lots of ideas on how to do things right.
If you can’t find two hours to read this book you’re simply not interested in your company’s marketing efforts reaching their full potential nor interested in having meaningful engagement with your consumers.
